Think For Yourself

Independent thinking is a superpower that is going out of style. Groupthink and tribalism is common. We should get back to thinking on our own then reconvening as a group. In our world with social networks, it's easy to tag along to what everybody else is thinking. However, thinking for yourself unlocks a whole new world.

This isn't even limited to life's events. It can be for problem solving as well. Understanding a problem deeply and being able to logically think through it, then deduce an answer is priceless. Thinking in its essence is crucial yet we don't flex our thinking muscle enough. It takes practice to come up with our own thoughts, opinions, and solutions.

Zoom out and reflect on where your thoughts mostly come from. Are they authentic? Are any of your thoughts your own or are they somebody else's? It's a surprisingly good exercise. You will be surprised that maybe you're a culmination of everybody else's thoughts and not your own. That needs to change.

As you become an independent thinker, you build intellectual character. You build a sense of ownership. You open your mind to thoughts that would've never entered before. That is really powerful. Don't be scared to walk on your own, you don't always have to be a part of the herd. It takes courage to not be, though.

Stop consuming everybody else's thoughts and have some of your own. Next time you're in the situation to have some idea, thought, opinion, belief, think if your brain had any input on it. Have self-respect to allow your thoughts to go free. Everything changes.
